Arcane Echo and Arcane Thievery ???
This new energy denial/spiker Me/E build I made has a few spaces left for skills such as arcane echo and inferno as well as arcane thievery. I was wondering if anyone thinks echoing arcane thievery would be a good idea (thats 2 of the monks spells disabled for 30 seconds). This could have maximum affect straight after using diversion. We're talking about 3 skills disabled for 30+ seconds. I only need a few energy denial skills e.g. sig of weariness energy burn and shame because my GvG build uses another full energy denial mesmer. What do ya reckon ???

There is a thread not a few pages ago that talks about Echo Thevery. It's basically not worthwhile, because the Echo Thevery tends to steal same spell that Thevery stole, not to mention both tend to steal the same spell during a match.

twas but an idea. I'm still gonna try it though because last GvG I did managed to grab the monks elite twice (least I think it was elite) word of healing I think.

I hope you have plenty of energy management if you using Arcane Echo/Thievery, those things don't come cheap.

Energy don't tend to be a problem, I just use shame whenever its recharged then do the arcane combo then power drain/drain enchantment or energy tap if I'm using inspiration magic

Using Shame does sorta rely on them actually casting under it though to gain energy. I see it as more of a shutdown than energy management. They would also need energy to steal in the first place.

Seems to me like you are trying to make a mix-and-match Mesmer build and as we all know this doesn't really work. If you wanna go shutdown, just go shutdown, if you wanna go e-denial, just go e-denial. Mesmers are strongest when focused.

Perhaps this will be changed in the future; but as of now...we can't rely on stealing different skills.

In a single GvG, I used Arcane Thievery on a monk 3-4 times. My results:
1. Heal Other
2. Divine Boon
3. Mend Ailment
4. If it was 4, I don't remember what it was.
In fact, the only time I kept stealing the same spell over and over was when I used it on the W/Mo's, in which I stole their Healing Breeze. (The match was pretty much over, so I just had fun.)
I can't testify to the mileage others get out of Arcane Thievery, but it's worked just fine for me.
Besides, stealing an E/Mo's Heal Party makes me giggle.

Point being there is little benefit in using Echo with Arcane Thevery because the two Theveries are more likely than not to steal the same spell. No one is saying AT is bad or anything... it's just that Echoing it isn't worthwhile. I hope they change this, because with its double coming in Factions, I can think of some pretty nice strategies with it.

It's still energy denial.

No you guys are right. There's no point echoing thievery but I still think its good on its own. I just tend to locate enemy mesmer and steal one of his spells. Last GvG I did I capped Energy Surge (I u power block since was running a shutdown mesmo)
As for spreading my skills too far thats the whole plan. I dunno if I mentioned but this energy denial/spiker build only works in GvG if ur team has a full energy denial mesmer as well. I just wanted to have fun stealing skills and disabling their's . There is one problem though in that I'm using mind burn for spiking but I can't decide whether to use inspiration magic or domination magic for partial energy denial + energy gain. With either I would use arcane mimicry and use my team's other mesmer's elite as well so that could be energy drain or energy surge. Basically which type has the best non elite energy denial skills since elite is taken up with mind burn ????

thievery and mimicry can be very effective under the right circumstances.
thievery is a gamble... could steal something minimal, could cripple the victim.. no way to know, thus i dont use it much, though i have with good and bad results
mimicry i think is very nice as it basically allows 2 elites, however, it can only be used in a group that takes afew mooments to discuss prior to the gogoggo quick exits and know whats there to be used.

Arcane thievery and Arcane Larceny are both the same skill, so this will be easier soon I think. That with Diversion is pretty deadly, and if you're a me/mo shutting down monks, you can actually use the skills.
